Scenes like this will soon be a thing of the past, but it won't be cheap. The Iraq war is costing the U.S. taxpayer $275M.

Gosh, that seems like a lot of money–it that since it started? Or just in the last 12 months? Sorry, no. That is the cost PER DAY.

The current strategy for cutting down on casualties is paying $800,000 of that daily cash directly to the insurgents not to fight the Americans. Is this bribery or extortion?

I don't know a lot about modern 21st century warfare, but it appears to me they could have simply stayed at home and sent a cheque.

In other news, President Bush (second only to Giuliani in name-checking 9/11) found space in his final budget to cut health funding for 9/11 victims. Gosh, they were only looking for about 20 hours worth of Iraq war money.
