Best Country in the World
The Economist Magazine survey of 2004 is old news now, but I came across it again in a Best of Craigslist entry refuting myths about America. For Quality of Life, health, freedom, unemployment, family life, climate, political stability and security, gender equality and family and community life) apparently Ireland is (or was) the best place to live in the world. I haven't checked the new listings.
Of course, living here it's hard to be objective. As everyone knows, there are times you love and hate whichever place you end up residing, be it Siberia or Bermuda. But I must say in the last few years, I've had very little to complain about here: this country, whatever its faults, supports my lifestyle pretty well. I just wish we hadn't advertised it to the world.
