Prince of Tides, something of which to be proud
Guess which little island has got the world's first commercial scale tidal power turbine? This one! A company called SeaGen last week installed 1.2 MW tidal energy convertor in Strangford Lough, powerful enough to run 1000 homes.
With all the current hype about biofuels turning to panic over increased food production costs, we should see tidal power as an incentive to the production of viable electric vehicles. Most methods of electricity production are carbon-based, thus electric cars simply shift the environmental problems sideways one step.
Somewhat embarrassingly though, one of the turbine blades just flew off but relax, it's only a minor hiccup according to a SeaGen spokesman.
