Here's how it looks from space
One of my more popular posts of yesteryear described the North Pacific Subtropical Gyre (viz. 'Seas of Plastic Rapture'), a huge mass of synthetic waste which seems to be threatening to completely envelope the Earth.
It's a little hard to picture mentally so I was delighted to come across this graphic representation in The Independent recently (though the article is from last year).
This is the result of our relentless consumerism and short-sighted environmental policies. Whenever I hear smug pundits banging on about the so-called global warming 'myth' and how the eco-warriors are bogusly exaggerating our problems, I think of this: the largest man-made object in the history of the world.
It's not good, people. I think we have a right to be a little alarmist, don't you?
